This simple breath assessment indicates how sensitive we are of carbon dioxide, where our nervous system is, and ultimately how reactive we are to stress.
Our breath responds to the energy needs of our bodies - via our nervous system - every moment of our lives. By measuring the time of our exhale, we can gain insight into how the deepest parts of our body cope with stress. Carbon dioxide tolerance is at the heart of how we not only respond to stress, but how and when we breathe most of the time.
Having a breath practice can be a powerful way to enhance our health and deal with stress, but it can be tough to know where to start. As many of the breathing techniques in and around this space strictly deal with relief, this can leave most far away from developing a true practice that can build in regulation, resilience, and, ultimately, awareness.
This is a first step in gaining insight into how your nervous system is managing stress. Our Membership and Health Programs offer a next step into developing the skills necessary for a long-term practice and ultimately deeper awareness of yourself and how you value you.
